Action Item! Write to the Mayor & City Council

October 2024

The City of Northampton will soon certify $6-8 million in excess revenue. During the certification process, the state counts and verifies a city’s leftover tax dollars unspent or underestimated the previous year. Those excess funds will become part of the city’s spendable cash, also called “Free Cash.”

Northampton has generous savings accounts within several Stabilization Funds that accumulate monies through interest. Students attending Northampton Public Schools need the City of Northampton to allocate funds for more support now.

SOS – Support Our Schools requests that the Mayor allocate funds to Northampton Public Schools to restore positions that were cut for the FY25 School Budget.

Informed city residents know it is fully within the Mayor’s power to present a financial order that would reallocate funds from the $6-8 million to Northampton Public Schools.

Members of the City Council can urge the Mayor to create this order, and then vote to make it a reality.

Please support Northampton Public Schools by writing to the Mayor and City Council using the email template below as a starting point.
